A Beginner Guide to Foraging Wild Edible Plants
Your go-to guide for foraging wild edible plants in Ireland and the UK. Find plants near you with geolocation, learn to identify them safely, and start your foraging journey today. The beginner’s guide I wish I had to start with.
Alongside that, you’ll also find details on:
- The nutritional value of plants
- Key vitamins and minerals
- How these nutrients can support the human body
The goal is to help and encourage you to get into foraging while allowing you to take better care of your body by using the human anatomy descriptions.
Where the Information Comes From and Inspiration
All of the plant information on this website comes from a mix of trusted sources and personal experience out in the wild.
I’ve also included links and references throughout, so if you want to go deeper into specific plants or topics, you can.
A huge influence on this project has been The Forager’s Calendar by John Wright. This book has been incredibly helpful in learning what plants to look for, when to find them, and how to forage properly.
I couldn’t recommend it enough, and it covers far more plants than what’s currently on this site. Please make sure to check out his work here
A Work in Progress
This website is currently a proof of concept, created during my final year of college. The plan is to keep building it out over time by adding:
- More wild edible plants
- More foraging locationsTrail walks and routes
- More Trail walks and routes
- More detailed plant nutrition information
Why I Made This
This is the kind of resource I wish I had when I first started foraging.
A lot of time and effort has gone into putting this together, and the goal is to make foraging simpler, safer, and more enjoyable for anyone getting started.
If it helps you get outside, learn something new, and connect more with nature, then I am a happy man.
